The 51st Eight, now known as the Big Bang Jazz Band, is a group of musicians from the Vancouver area. Dedicated to the style of the early jazz masters, their music features driving rhythms and a highly-energized, tight ensemble sound.

The 51st Eight is now the Big Bang Jazz Band
It's been ten years since the band's formation in 1998 and we have decided the time is right to move forward under a new name. The members haven't changed but the new title reflects the band's musical direction. Our new disc, The Big Bang, is now available at all of the Big Bang Jazz Band's shows. Stay tuned for the new website at bigbangjazzband.com.
The 51st Eight – Ten Years: A Retrospective
To mark our tenth birthday, we have released a limited edition Tenth Anniversary release. This features tracks from all seven of our recordings, including two from the new album, The Big Bang.
Celebrating Ten Years!
The 51st Eight celebrated its tenth birthday with a Birthday Festacular at the Chilliwack Jazz Festival this May. The Chilliwack Landing Sports Centre was packed as we celebrated with two sets of music, special guests, and a short documentary of the band's history. Look for a link to the video on this website in the near future.
